    Amanda Knox

The media in America is so biased it's ridiculous! Even a one hour special fails to mention that Amanda told Rafaele to lie for her and tell the cops that she was with him at his apartment during the murder.

Later Rafaelle told the cops that he LIED for Amanda because Amanda was NOT there with him! So Amanda has NO alibi during the time of the murder!

Not only that but Amanda wrote that confession of her own free will! She claims it's forced?? LMAO!! How many HUNDREDS of inamtes in America claim the same thing? If not THOUSANDS!

Plus doing cartwheels within a few days of the murder at the POLICE STATION certainly doesn't make you look innocent!

Amanda Knox witness disputes DNA knife evidence

DNA on the knife used to kill British student Meredith Kercher could not have been from blood, a forensic expert testifying for Amanda Knox's defense told a court Wednesday.

Carlo Torre, one of Italy's best-known forensics experts, presented a detailed technical argument about the DNA on the knife as Knox appeals her conviction for the murder of her housemate.

Prosecutors in 2009 said there were traces of Knox's genetic material on the handle and Kercher's in a tiny groove on the blade.

Knox and her ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were found guilty of the killing in 2009, two years after Kercher's semi-naked body was found in the house they shared in Perugia, Italy.

Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison, while Sollecito got 25. A third defendant, Rudy Guede, was convicted in a separate fast-track trial.

Prosecutors Wednesday asked for more DNA tests, to call more witnesses and to introduce newly found records about the machine used for DNA testing.

The judge rejected all three requests and adjourned the hearing until September 23, when final arguments are expected to begin.

Lawyers fighting for Knox and Sollecito this week have worked to cast doubt on DNA evidence found on the knife and Kercher's bra clasp.

Sara Gino, another defense witness, testified Wednesday that Sollecito's genetic material could have gotten onto the bloodied bra if it was on Knox's clothes when they were washed with Kercher's before the killing.

Other experts working for the defense argued this summer that the Sollecito DNA allegedly found on the bra clasp should be "inadmissible."

Carla Vecchiotti and Stefano Conti said the clasp was "dirty" and had been allowed to rust, making further testing futile.

Vecchiotti has also testified that tests for blood on the the knife were negative, and that the amount of DNA said to be Kercher's was so low, it could not be examined again with any conclusions.

But Italian state police forensic expert Patrizia Stefanoni defended Tuesday the methods and the equipment used in the investigation.

Stefanoni said the machine used for the DNA examination was clean -- and rejected suggestions the clasp had been contaminated. She said it had been moved but not turned over or stepped on at the scene.

Knox's father, Curt, told reporters outside court Monday that he believed the independent experts "have done a very good job in evaluating the information... and I don't see it breaking down at this point. I see that it has been good for Amanda."

This case makes little sense to me. As it currently stands, three people (Sollecito, Guede and Knox) have been convicted of Kercher's murder. As I recall, Knox and Sollecito had been seeing each other for just a few weeks, while neither of them seems to have known Guede as more than an acquaintance. Do any of you know of a similar case where three such different people, who barely knew each other, ended up committing a murder together?

I just heard the Court rejected a new DNA test. It's strange they said that's a blow to the prosecution since you would think it would be a blow to the defense. They can't test it to try and show there is nothing there. Amanda Knox STILL doesn't have an alibi and she asked Solliceto to LIE for her to tell the cops that she was at his place when he wasn't!!

I just don't think Italy will let her go. Maybe reduce the sentence to 20 years.

It was a kind of sex and drugs crime. Knox is guilty as the 3 others. There was enough evidence and proof. The DNA-issue is just smokoe and mirror of the defense (same like in the DP trials).

    F.e.
    - footprint in Kerchers blood of Sollecito in the bathroom
    - the burglary with a broken window (from insode to outside, broken after the murder)
    - strange behaviour after Knoxs arest
    - first (and recanted) confession of Knox
    - Knox accused an innocent person to be the murder, he had been released after 2 weeks

They request just the DNA on the bra and knife. The knife was not relevant for the sentence. The clip of the bra canīt be used now, because itīs to rosty, What a pitty (or got work of the defense team).

itīs time to accept that attractive people commit crimes too. :beguiled:

    LOL...good one Michael!

I actually met an Italian lady at the pool this summer. She is from Naples and born and raised there. She said there's no way Italy will let Amanda Knox go and she's guilty.

Mike, you actually have people on DEATH ROW in America on LESS evidence than in the Knox case! You have several people on death row simply based on ONE shaky eyewitness account and those have been recanted and proven wrong many times yet they still sit on death row.

And some Americans complain that Amanda Knox is in jail in Italy on a LOT more evidence?? INSANE!!

Yeah, sometimes people tend to use different standards. I aso second your opinion that there are people on US death rows with less evidence.

Maybe it is some kind of patriotism that they support another citizen of the US without much knowledgeof the case or itīs like I wrote - I associae with murder ugly criminals or drug ddicts, notched robberies and not a young, female student.

Drama as prosecutors seek life term for Knox

The prosecution summing-up in Amanda Knox's appeal against her conviction for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher ended in high drama last night.

Lawyers asked for Knox's sentence to be increased to life imprisonment. They demanded that former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito also be given life. Knox was sentenced to 26 years by a lower court and with good behaviour could be expected to leave prison much sooner. Life imprisonment in Italian law is intended to mean that prisoners serve a minimum of 26 years. Lifers are also obliged to do unpaid employment in prison.

Earlier, prosecutors had attacked the court-appointed experts who questioned the forensic evidence against Knox. Prosecutor Manuela Comodi noted the experts were both professors of forensic science, rather than practising investigators. She asked the jury: "Would you entrust the wedding reception of your only daughter to someone who knew all the recipes by heart but had never actually cooked?" Ms Comodi said the original analysis had been carried out by police forensic experts whose competence was internationally recognised.

A verdict is expected early next month. Next week a lawyer for the victim's family and the defence teams will deliver their closing arguments.

Knox, of Seattle, Washington, and Sollecito were convicted by a lower court of sexually assaulting and murdering Meredith Kercher while they were all studying in Perugia in 2007. Knox was sentenced to 26 years, her co-defendant Sollecito to 25 years.

They both deny wrongdoing and have appealed the 2009 verdict.

But in Italy prosecutors also can appeal, and they did so in this case, using the appeals court to try for the harsher penalty.

The prosecutors had sought life imprisonment, Italy's harshest punishment, in the original trial, too.

For two days, prosecutors sought to persuade the appeals court that there is sound evidence incriminating the defendants: witness testimony, genetic material, cell phone activity.

Ms Comodi, summing up the case yesterday, said there is "gigantic, rock-solid circumstantial evidence". Ms Kercher was stabbed to death in the apartment she shared with Knox, in what prosecutors said was a drug-fuelled sexual aggression.

Earlier yesterday, Ms Comodi defended the forensic evidence that had been used to convict Knox, firing back at an independent review that criticised the investigation and the work of police in the case.

The DNA is crucial in the case, where no clear motive for the brutal killing has emerged.

Prosecutors maintain that Knox's DNA was found on the handle of a kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon, and that Kercher's DNA was found on the blade. They said Sollecito's DNA was on the clasp of Kercher's bra as part of a mix of evidence that also included the victim's genetic profile.

But those findings were always disputed by the defence, and the appeals court decided to appoint two independent experts to review the evidence.

The independent experts challenged both findings. They said police had made glaring errors in evidence-collecting and that below-standard testing and possible contamination raised doubts over the attribution of DNA traces, both on the blade and on the bra clasp, which was collected from the crime scene several weeks after the murder.

I REALLY doubt Italy will let her go.

I think they may either reduce her sentence to 25 or 20 years OR they could increase to 30 to 40 years! She STILL has no alibi and only 5% of cases have DNA so that really doesn't matter for the prosecution even if the DNA wasn't allowed!
