District attorney seeks death penalty in '08 case
D.A. Greg Edwards refiles murder case with Dougherty Judicial Circuit grand jury for death penalty.
Dougherty Judicial Circuit District Attorney Greg Edwards said he will seek the death penalty for Allen Robinson Jr., now 37, for the stabbing death of his estranged girlfriend.
"Under the circumstances and in light of the facts of the criminal allegations of domestic violence," Edwards said, "this was a case I feel all options for the jury to select an appropriate punishment should be available."
Robinson was arrested in the Dougherty Judicial Circuit jurisdiction for abducting and fatally stabbing 30-year-old Roshanda Dowell multiple times in November 2008.
"He did it on front of a crowded supermarket," Edwards said. "There were plenty of witnesses."
Robinson is in Dougherty County Jail with no bond set, a jail spokeswoman said.
According to police reports Robinson, a former Dougherty County detention officer, has a 2008 history of domestic violence including battery, violating a family protection order and cruelty to children.
Saying that the deterrent value of a death sentence is not really known, Edwards wants anyone contemplating a violent act to know that he will go for the penalty when it is warranted.
"Anyone who does a premeditated violent act should be prepared for the death penalty," Edwards said. "This office will seek the death penalty when aggravating circumstances warrant it in domestic violence situations."
