Suspect accused of killing woman found on Interstate 90 faces the death penalty; officers who thought body was a deer to be disciplined
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland man accused of killing the woman found along Interstate 90 was indicted Tuesday.
Stephon Davis, 30, is charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence and gross abuse of a corpse in the death of Angel Bradley-Crockett.
He will be arraigned May 4 in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, where he faces the death penalty.
The aggravated robbery charge involves Bradley-Crockett's clothing and personal belongings, prosecutor's spokesman Ryan Miday said.
Davis is accused of beating Bradley-Crockett and using a ligature to strangle her. Her nude body was found April 5 on the berm under the West 44th Street overpass.
Patrol officers found the body two hours after the first of four 9-1-1 calls from motorists who saw it between 4:30 and 6:30 a.m.
Patrolmen Matthew Prince and David Muniz drove past the body at 4:30 a.m. at more than 40 mph and reported that it was a dead deer.
They face discipline, Safety Director Marty Flask said.
"It remains under investigation," he said this morning. "Their conduct is being reviewed by Internal Affairs, including conduct by the officers prior to and immediately following the incident. The investigation is expected to be completed Friday or Monday."
The day the body was found, The Plain Dealer requested the data from the police car's global positioning device. It has not been released.
