Hi to all!
My name is Marija and I want to introduce to you our web site.
Below is the introduction of what to expect on the site:
We are dedicated to the world-wide abolition of the death penalty. We oppose its re-introduction in any abolitionist country, Serbia in particular.
This site is devoted primarily to the history of capital punishment in Serbia (1804-2002) and the former Yugoslavia (1918-1991).
Our Convict Database contains information on over 6,500 persons sentenced to death in Serbia and Yugoslavia from 1804 to 2002. We invite you to search it – you may find an ancestor or a historical figure of interest to you. Help us update it! If you know of someone sentenced to death in Serbia/Yugoslavia who is not in our Database, please send the details and quote a reliable source and/or enclose the supporting proof. Help us correct mistakes! If you find a misspelled name, a wrong date or a dubious fact – please suggest a correction.
You are also welcome to search our Legal Database. It contains death penalty laws, statutes and regulations that were in force at any time in Serbia or Yugoslavia in the past two centuries. We would like it to be comprehensive, so please feel free to add to it. Take a look at our collection of international norms and standards on the death penalty. All of it is in English, but we would like to make as many as possible available in Serbian as well and invite volunteers to help with the translation.
Look up our Topics and learn more about various death penalty issues. A new Topic appears every month – read about modes of execution, about Serbian abolitionists or something else. Suggest a topic you are interested in and help write it up!
What do people in Serbia think about capital punishment? Under Public Opinion you will find information on: past debates in Serbian and Yugoslav parliaments; petitions for abolition; current opinion polls.
Our Bibliography of titles about capital punishment in the Serbian language is incomplete. Add to it!
Take the Quiz! Give correct answers and save someone from the gallows!
We support the UN Moratorium on the use of the death penalty and many current campaigns to save the lives of persons sentenced to death world over. Join us!
