    Terence Tramaine Andrus - Texas

Man sentenced to death in Fort Bend County killiings

A Fort Bend County jury sentenced a man to death Wednesday for the 2008 deaths of two Sugar Land residents in what appeared to be attempted carjackings, court officials confirmed.

The jury convicted Terence Tramaine Andrus, 24, of capital murder in the deaths of Avelino Saucedo Diaz and Kim Phuong Bui. The two were shot to death Oct. 15, 2008 in the parking lot of a Kroger grocery in the 9300 block of Texas 6.

Andrus was arrested in New Orleans on Nov. 7 of that year on an unrelated aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon charge. Investigators said he confessed to the shootings.

    His trial began Thursday.

Norma Diaz testified her 31-year-old husband was shot in the parking lot, while he waited for her to run into the grocery to buy a carton of milk. Steve Bui and his 49-year-old wife were driving to the grocery to buy items to bake a cake when a man shot at their car three times. She died on the way to the hospital, her husband told the court.

During the punishment phase of the trial, witnesses testified of Andrus' violent history, Fort Bend County prosecutor Thomas Pfeiffer said. Three Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies, two Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office deputies and several victims of aggravated robbery testified that Andrus had assaulted them, he said.

In today's orders, the United States Supreme Court REMANDED Andrus' case to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals to consider whether his counsel's deficient performance prejudiced him in receiving a death sentence. Justices Thomas, Alito and Gorsuch dissented.

24 Conferences they had on this case.
"There is a point in the history of a society when it becomes so pathologically soft and tender that among other things it sides even with those who harm it, criminals, and does this quite seriously and honestly. Punishing somehow seems unfair to it, and it is certain that imagining ‘punishment’ and ‘being supposed to punish’ hurts it, arouses fear in it." Friedrich Nietzsche
