Shawn Eric Ford, Jr. is accused of the murders of prominent attorney Jeff Schobert, 56, and his wife, Margaret, 59.
Bond set at $2 million for Shawn Ford charged with murder of New Franklin couple
The 18-year-old arrested in connection with the deaths of New Franklin couple, Jeffrey and Margaret Schobert, appeared in Barberton Municipal Court Friday morning.
Shawn Ford Jr.’s bond was set at $2 million. His arraignment is scheduled for April 10 at 1 p.m.
As police escorted Ford into court Friday morning, NewsChannel5 reporter Bob Jones asked him about the charges against him.
"I'm not talking about it right now," Ford said. When asked if he murdered the couple, Ford responded, "Get out of my face with that."
Ford, the boyfriend of the couple’s daughter Chelsea, is facing seven charges: two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of aggravated burglary and one count of grand theft, all felonies.
Also today, Akron police filed a felonious assault charge against Ford for the March 23 beating of Chelsea Schobert.
She was stabbed and suffered a skull fracture after an attack inside an Akron home on Andrus Street. She remains a patient at Akron Children's Hospital.
Police originally charged Jamayne Ruiz, 24, for the attack. Akron police have dismissed the charge against him and he was released from the Summit County Jail last night.
According to investigators, construction workers found the Schoberts dead in the bedroom of their Rex Lake Drive home in New Franklin Tuesday afternoon.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office said the autopsy revealed the two died from blunt impacts to the head and police said Ford used a sledgehammer to kill the couple.
Prosecutors may seek the death penalty for the murders.
