There is a small but growing call for the return of the death penalty in the UK :

I believe that certain crimes are so heinous, they warrant nothing less. If some of these crimes were specifically detailed to the public, in all it's brutality, and then it was put to a vote, I can't imagine it below 70% in favor.

There's a thought, If someone is found guilty, post their crime online with all it's details, and let registered voters decide their fate. Anything over 70% is death.

And after the despicable acts in the last week, I imagine that number will go up.

"The survey found 64 per cent of voters believe we need tougher laws to curb incitement to terrorism, while 63 per cent would support the death penalty for convicted terrorists."

This is a rather nebulous question. How is a terrorist defined for the purpose of this poll?

As it happens, the words "terrorism" and "terrorist" are already clearly defined in UK legislation (see, respectively, sections 1 and 40 of the Terrorism Act 2000). The definition is probably far looser than most people answering this poll would have assumed.

Nonetheless, from the legal aspect, the necessary statutory amendments are few and simple for a proposal like this to be implemented. Only the political aspects are in issue here. I include the various European roadblocks as political issues: this is an ineluctable consequence of Parliamentary sovereignty.
