Motions were heard in Jones County Superior Court last week in preparation for the upcoming death penalty trial of Tyrone Richardson.
Richardson is charged with co-defendant Terrence Burney in a 2008 murder of 76-year-old Joseph Kitchens. Superior Court Judge James Cline, who will be the judge for the murder trials, heard the June 13 motions.
Burney and Richardson are charged with felony murder, false imprisonment, and burglary.
The state is seeking the death penalty, which is the reason the defendants are being tried separately.
Richardson was represented in Thursday's proceeding by capital public defenders Christian Lamar and Kimberly Staten-Hayes.
District Attorney Fred Bright is prosecuting the case with the aid of Assistant District Attorney Keagan Waystack.
