The last Carter holdover, Carmen Cerezo of the District of Puerto Rico is finally taking senior status after having been on the bench for 41 years.

It looks like for now, Durbin will maintain Graham’s blue slip role on the Judiciary Committee. District court nominees can still be blocked but circuit court nominees cannot.

I just had a look at pending nominations for both appeals courts and district courts.

There are currently 3 nominations pending for the appeals courts, all of which are black women.

For the district courts, there are 10 nominations pending, 7 of which are women. Among the 3 men nominated, there are no whites (1 black, 1 Latino, 1 Pakistani).

I think the message is quite clear, the Democrats are fed up with men, especially white men.

They've been like this for awhile. It's been 53 years since they nominated a white man(Homer Thornberry) for SCOTUS.

The message is quite clear, which makes it even funnier that they elected a 78-year-old white guy President.

Will Durbin nuke blue slips for district court nominees in this congress?

Kyrsten Sinema has announced she will now be "independent". Apparently one of the main reasons was blue slips and their attempts to end the filibusters.

Sinema has still voted for every judicial nominee, my guess for this switch is if she does run for re-election she doesn’t have to go through a primary.

Not sure what the strategic advantage would be in bombing the rule for the federal district courts. Any decision is going to be appealed to USCA or USSC, which largely vote against the thugs anyway.

Even if they lose in the end, it still obstructs the administration. Just look at how the Trump Admin was paralyzed by Federal District Judges even though SCOTUS usually sided with them.
