A male inmate in the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino died at a local hospital this week and authorities said another inmate was responsible for his murder, Friday, Aug. 3.

At 5:23 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, deputies assigned to the Central Detention Center found an inmate unresponsive in his cell. He was transported to the hospital, but was pronounced dead an hour later, authorities said in a release.

After an extensive in-custody death investigation, detectives said 38-year-old Samuel Amador coerced the victim into his cell. Once inside, he killed him, authorities said. It was not immediately known how the victim died and his name is being withheld pending family notification, officials said.

The Riverside County Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine how the victim died.

Amador was originally arrested on Aug. 24, 2013, and booked for the murder, parole violation and numerous misdemeanor charges. He was arrested for the murder of a 26-year old Highland resident in Highland.

No further details were immediately available.
