Afghan Juvenile Executed in Iran for Drug Related Charges

A 15 year old Afghan juvenile offender has been executed in the prison of Isfahan. Reports indicate that he was convicted of drug-related charges and didn’t have access to lawyer. Iranian authorities claim that juveniles are not executed in Iran. This is the seventh juvenile offender being executed in Iran in 2014. What separates this case from the other juvenile executions is that this is the first known case in several years where a juvenile is executed on drug charges. Iran Human Rights urges the United Nations to investigate this case and react towards the juvenile executions in Iran.

Iran Human Rights, May 6, 2014: According to reports by sources in Afghanistan a juvenile offender has recently been executed in Iran. The Dari section of Radio Liberty (Radio Azadi), reported that a 15 year old Afghan boy identified as Jannat Mir was among the six Afghan citizens who were executed in the Dastgerd prison of Isfahan in April. Iran Human Rights (IHR) recently reported about the execution of six Afghan citizens on April 18.

According to Radio Azadi, Jannat Mir and the five others executed in Isfahan were all convicted of drug-related charges. In an interview with Radio Azadi, Jannat Mir’s brother “Nazok Mir” said that “Jannat Mir was a 9th grade school boy who left Afghanistan to Iran two years ago. He was arrested by the Iranian authorities and sentenced to death for drug-trafficking. He didn’t have access to lawyer and the Iranian authorities didn’t allow the family to take the body back to Afghanistan. So they had to bury Jannat Mir in Isfahan”. It is not clear whether Jannat Mir was 15 at the time of his arrest or the execution.

IHR urges the UN to investigate this case and if confirmed take appropriate measures against the Iranian authorities. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said: ” Execution of juvenile offenders for drug-related charges is not only a serious violation of the international law, but it also violates the Iranian law. We urge the UN to take this particular case and the other reports on the execution of juveniles in Iran seriously and take appropriate measures”.

At least 7 juvenile executions have been reported in 2014 in Iran. Recently the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty called on Iranian authorities to stop juvenile executions.

    9 prisoners hanged in Ahvaz

Another group of 9 prisoners were hanged on Monday in a prison in southeastern city of Ahvaz raising the number of execution to 79 in past 3 weeks.

The victims who had been all accused of drug smuggling were identified by their initials: L.B., M.T., A.A., H.K., A.Kh, M.J., A.Q., M.Q, and another M.Q.

The Iranian regime's hangmen executed a group of 11 prisoners including a woman in Ghezal Hesar prison in city of Karaj on Friday evening, May 9.

The growing trend of executions in cities across Iran demonstrates the fright of the mullahs' regime from an uprising by the Iranian people who are under extreme pressures. This fear has been publicly expressed by the regime's officials and in reports by state-run news media.

Ebtekar daily wrote on May 10: "Everyone is talking about the low threshold of tolerance in the society and warns about the perils of such a state...the daily realities around us do confirm this danger...any wrong move in this circumstance is like a spark in the gunpowder depot."

Since last year's sham presidential election that Hassan Rouhani assumed office over 700 prisoners have been executed.

Iran: 3 prisoners hanged, 2 prisoners lashed in Qazvin

NCRI - The Iranian regime judiciary in city of Qazvin announced the execution of three prisoners in the city's main prison, state-run Fars News Agency reported on Saturday. Two other prisoners received 10 and 30 lashes.

The prisoners who were hanged early morning on Saturday were identified by their first name as Mohsen, Yousef and Saeed. All prisoners had been arrested on drug related charges.

Despite claims of moderation by Hassan Rouhani, the regime’s president, there have been more executions over the past year compared with any other year in the past 25 years.

More than 700 have been executed in Iran during 2013, two thirds of which occurred during Rouhani’s tenure.

The executions in cities across Iran is being carried out to intimidate an angry and disillusioned society that the mullahs have no other way to contain.

The desire for change is pervasive in Iran, in particular among women, who are treated as second-class citizens, and youth (55 percent of Iranians are younger than 30), who have little hope that their desires will be met under the mullahs’ rule.

Iran: Group of 10 prisoners hanged in Kerman

The mullahs' regime judiciary in Kerman province said on Saturday that 10 prisoners have been hanged in the main prison in southern city of Kerman, state-run Fars News Agency reported.

Those hanged had been accused of drug smuggling. The prisoners were identified by their initials.

More than 700 have been executed in Iran during 2013, 2/3 of which occurred during Rouhani's tenure.

In a report to the U.N. Human Rights Council, the U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said earlier this year that Hassan Rouhani, the president of clerical regime has failed to allow greater freedom of expression and there has been a sharp rise in executions since his election.

Ban highlighted the prevalent use of capital punishment in Iran.

In fear of the rage and abhorrence of the Iranian people regarding these anti-human verdicts, Hassan Rouhani last must approved the executions but he said that the victims not to be mistreated at the time of their execution.
