Convicted cop killers again denied parole

Next parole hearing scheduled for 2019

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two convicted Cincinnati cop killers were denied parole Tuesday.

The Ohio Parole Board denied release for Russell Bell, 63, and Wayne Reed, 62.

The two were convicted of killing Cincinnati Police Officer Charles Burdsall and attempted murder of a teenager in 1978.

They received the death sentence for Burdsall’s murder but it was reduced to life imprisonment by the Ohio Supreme Court.

A post on a memorial Facebook page said the parole board received more than 1,000 letters requesting Bell and Reed be denied parole.

Bell and Reed planned to rob a convenience store in Clifton but were seen by an off-duty officer who reported the crime.

Burdsall stopped the car the two were in and Reed shot him three times.

Reed was sentenced to 22 years to life in prison; Bell was serving a 902-year sentence.

The pair have previously been denied parole and will be eligible again in May 2019.
