"If ever there were a case for a referendum, this is one on which the people should be allowed to express their own views and not irresponsible votes in the House of Commons." — Winston Churchill, on the death penalty

But it's undeniable that the last three executions have been botched (Smith, Miller and James, whose sentence has been carried out on the razor's edge), and I'm quite confident that they will botch the next one as well. Why? I don't know. But if you keep taking hours to execute a procedure which in every other death penalty state it's a matter of mere minutes, we can fairly say that there is a problem in Alabama.
Let's look at the facts. Both Miller and Smith have been strapped on the gurney sometimes after 10:30 p.m. If they would have been in Texas or in Missouri or in Oklahoma, they would both be dead by now, even with a warrant expiring at midnight.
Is it my imagination that Thomas Wilson and Jill Pryor sit on a lot of 11th Circuit death penalty cases? This issue was alleged years ago at the 6th & 9th Circuits.
The allegation with the Ninth Circuit was that liberal chief judges were assigning cases to panels they knew would grant stays--mostly Pregerson and Reinhardt. I have a hard time believing that Bill Pryor is doing that.
Still, there's a lot of based judges on the 11th Circuit like Brasher and Bill Pryor and they seem to never hear these cases.

"They will hurt you. They will hurt your grandma, these people. The root cause of this is there's no discipline in the homes, they don't go to school, you know, they live off the government, no personal accountability, and they just beat people up for no reason, and it's disgusting." - Former Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters
That may be true, but that may also be a function of those judges sitting on motions panels more often than other judges.
The AG of Alabama is going to have a press conference at 1pm today to "give an update Monday on the status of executions "

"There is a point in the history of a society when it becomes so pathologically soft and tender that among other things it sides even with those who harm it, criminals, and does this quite seriously and honestly. Punishing somehow seems unfair to it, and it is certain that imagining ‘punishment’ and ‘being supposed to punish’ hurts it, arouses fear in it." Friedrich Nietzsche
Welp that was a waste.
No progress on Nitrogen, he won't sign any warrants until a certain time has passed for a review to take place. This is a moratorium no matter how they want to spin it.

The review doesn’t need to be long.
Its conclusions should be:
– Both the governor and the attorney general should have the power to sign execution warrants, instead of a court.
– The use of any non-cruel and unusual method should be allowed, and determined for each case by the warrant.
– The warrant should provide a one-week window to carry out the execution.
