There must be at least 100+ names here. Thats 1/4 of death row. Governor Scott needs to start making moves.

The number keeps growing. Of course, having 4 executions a year isn't going to put a dent in this list.
As I posted before, only expect cop killers, killers of children and women as well as serial killers. I doubt any inmate that murdered a male victim in a robbery for example, will get executed. There is too many and the State is perplexed on how to carry them out.

It is ironic about Florida's death penalty. Back in the late 70's,80's and 90's, Governors Graham, Martinez and Bush would complain constantly about the federal courts overturning death sentences. Former Attorney Generals' Jim Smith and Bob Butterworth as well. Then AEDPA was passed and the 11th Circuit became significantly more conservative. They have upheld 90 plus percent of Florida cases. Then, the state gets what they have been complaining about for 20 years and the Executive Branch starting with Crist, won' t carry it out.

Be careful what you wish for.

If that's the case, I would expect Elmer Carroll, Thomas Knight or Eddie Davis to be next on the Governors death list. I admit I haven't thoroughly reviewed every D.P case in Florida and those who have exhausted their appeals, but I know Davis and Carroll committed pretty heinous crimes, both child killers.

Crist and Scott have signed 11 warrants since 2007. It is a small sample to examine but those are the results as I see them. I think that they know privately the vast majority will never be executed so they use a "proportionality test" to select the most heinous crimes. The jury's vote could be considered also. In Florida, a 7-5 vote can result in a death sentence providing there are significant aggravating factors that outweigh the mitigation.

I see your point of view. It does almost seem pre-determined who the Governor may select for his next execution. Once the cop killers and child murderers are cleared out, the Governor will start targeting less heinous murder cases. All of Scott's warrants were predictable. Like I said, following the pattern he's shown, Elmer Carroll, Eddie Davis, Paul Scott all seem to be viable candidates for the states next execution

What was your most recent e-mail and reply from the Governor's office concerning this issue? I know I have personally wrote several e-mails to the Governor's Office (particularly about Guy Gamble), and have also contacted the Attorney Generals Office as well.

Wayne Tompkins, Angel Diaz and David Johnston (although he died while under a warrant) weren't considered amongst the states worst of the worst. There were a vast majority of inmates who were way worse that Bush and Crist could have chose to execute before these 3 guys. That's the only thing that leads me to believe Governor Scott may not just look at the "worst" cases, but more so the cases that are amongst the states oldest. (i.e William Thompson, Thomas Knight, Henry Sireci). What I have judged based on Governor Rick Scott's death warrants is he is targeting the oldest cases with a combination of how bad the crime was. It wouldn't surprise me if Thomas Knight was due next to be executed. The Governor gets ALOT of names so I doubt he has a chance to review every case individually, so my assumption is he gets the names referred over to him on who to choose next.

Governor Rick Scott is clearly targeting the worst of the very worst on Florida's Death Row when choosing whom to sign a death warrant for. Going back reviewing his past death warrant cases, this appears to be very evident. He's targeting mass murderers and multiple convicted killers. I have yet to see child killers be executed under Governor Scott's watch so I do not know if he's factoring that into his decisions. It really would not surprise me if William Zeigler, Thomas Knight or John Ruthell Henry (multiple wife/child killer) was next in line.

Manuel Pardo was a perfect choice. I remember reading about this case when the opinion was released back in 2009. I've forgotten about it since then. It's good the Governor is keeping pace and setting these execution dates accordingly.

Henry Sireci and Stephen Booker should also be added to this list as both have been denied in the 11th Circuit.
